TCN Harvey Leadership Webinar Series
Applying the "DeMarco Factor" to Tobacco Control Policy Change-Part 1
Wednesday, May 11, 2011
12 p.m. PT/1 p.m. MT/2 p.m. CT/3 p.m. ET
Summary:
Tobacco control policies are among the most cost-effective and far-reaching ways to reduce tobacco use at the population level. Still, even with a passionate, dedicated group of tobacco control advocates, there are often significant challenges in gaining the public support and political momentum to enact evidence-based tobacco control policies. This webinar will focus on harnessing and cultivating effective strategies and leadership to drive a successful policy campaign. Three prominent tobacco control advocates, Vincent Demarco, Michael Pertschuk, and Glenn Schneider, will review their approaches to strategic planning, community organizing, coalition building, and analyzing leadership. The presentation will feature the public engagement and advocacy strategies illustrated in Pertschuk’s book, The DeMarco Factor, followed by a question-and-answer session on how their strategies can be applied in your policy efforts.
