Nicotine pouches have exploded in popularity despite their harmful and addictive effect on users. Between 2018 and 2023, the number of Zyn cans shipped in the U.S. rose from 6 million to 334 million. Youth are targeted with flavors and the discreet nature of nicotine pouches. These small nicotine powder-filled pouches placed between the gum and upper lip eliminate the telltale signs of smoke or vapor, or the need to spit. Significant social media campaigns market nicotine pouches, like Zyn, on platforms like TikTok, where “Zynfluencers” promote the product to viewers, many of whom are minors.
This 45-minute webinar will provide an overview of the basics of nicotine pouches, including how they are marketed, used, and regulated. Join us to learn how public health professionals and policymakers can address this latest trend in dangerous commercial tobacco products.
