Individuals who experienced trauma, including adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), are disproportionately impacted by commercial tobacco use and often experience additional challenges in their tobacco cessation treatment journey. Trauma-Informed Motivational Interviewing (TI-MI) is a compassionate, collaborative and evidence-based approach that can help develop trust and engagement with clients in tobacco treatment and enhance outcomes on their road to recovery. Additionally, TI-MI can be used to address ambivalence toward creating policy and systems-level change in tobacco control.

Join the National Behavioral Health Network (NBHN) on Tuesday, April 2, 3-5 p.m. ET for a masterclass on using TI-MI in tobacco treatment and control to explore how these strategies enhance tobacco treatment and complement existing efforts in tobacco control, including practice scenarios.

By attending this masterclass, participants will be able to:

• Increase their understanding of TI-MI.
• Explore how TI-MI can address ambivalence to change and increase collaboration in tobacco treatment and control.
• Practice TI-MI strategies to address nicotine addiction and treatment and enhance conversations for change in tobacco control.

This masterclass will feature the following speakers:
• Pam Pietruszewski, MA, Sr. Advisor, National Council for Mental Wellbeing and member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers
• Amelia Roeschlein, LMFT, DSW, Consultant, National Council for Mental Wellbeing
