Secondhand smoke exposure in cars and in rooms: Trend comparisons among subpopulations of nonsmoking U.S. middle and high school students – Nicotine & Tobacco Research. An analysis of five waves of the National Youth Tobacco Survey between 2000 and 2009 revealed significant downward linear trends in secondhand smoke (SHS) exposure in cars and rooms for nearly all measured subpopulations of nonsmoking students. The rates of decline were not equal across genders and racial/ethnic groups, with females experiencing a smaller decline than males and Hispanics and Native Hawaiians/Pacific Islanders experiencing a smaller decline in SHS exposure than non-Hispanic Blacks and Whites.

The effect of prices on cigarette use among youths in the Global Youth Tobacco Survey – Nicotine & Tobacco Research. Using data from 38 countries, researchers estimated the impact of prices on the decision to smoke and then estimated the effect of price on the number of cigarettes smoked. The authors concluded that cigarette price increases are highly effective in reducing smoking prevalence and consumption among youths globally and particularly among youths in low- and middle-income countries.
