Perceptions of addiction, attempts to quit, and successful quitting in nondaily and daily smokers – Psychology of Addictive Behaviors. Focus groups with college students found that daily and nondaily smokers have different understandings of what constitutes addiction and what constitutes successful cessation from smoking. Researchers concluded that the different perceptions of one’s own addiction, attempting to quit smoking, and successful quitting suggest the need to improve assessments of these factors, particularly among nondaily smokers.
Young adults' behavioral intentions surrounding a potential menthol cigarette ban – Nicotine & Tobacco Research. Data from the 2011 National Young Adult Health Survey indicate that a majority of young adult menthol smokers would quit smoking if menthol cigarettes were no longer sold, which builds on research finding public support for such a policy and on models of the public health impact such a ban could have.

Louisiana hosts summit on the 50th Anniversary of the Surgeon General's Tobacco Report – Xavier University of Louisiana and the Louisiana Cancer Research Center. In a rare, combined appearance, six former U.S. Surgeons General, the current Acting Surgeon General, and anti-tobacco youth leaders pushed for greater awareness and tobacco control action during a summit on February 11. The Kentucky Center for Smoke-free Policy (KCSP) at the University of Kentucky College of Nursing is launching a special initiative, Go Tobacco-free, that will provide valuable information for college campuses that have tobacco-free policies or want to adopt a tobacco-free policy.
