Poll: 82 percent of adults support banning smoking when kids are in the car
According a recent poll by the University of Michigan Mott Children’s Hospital, 82% of adults support banning smoking in cars when children under the age of thirteen are riding in the vehicle. Findings from the poll indicate strong support for laws and policy banning drivers and passengers from smoking when kids are in the car. Currently, only seven states have statewide laws prohibiting the practice. Four other states have cities or counties that ban smoking in vehicles with children present. The poll titled “National Poll on Children’s Health” also shows 87% of adults said they would support a ban on smoking in businesses when children are allowed and 75% expressed support for banning smoking in homes where children have asthma or other lung diseases. Legacy announces bold new commitment to jumpstart the next wave of declines in youth smoking
Legacy recently announced that it will begin agency reviews as a first step toward expanding the youth smoking prevention campaign, truth©. Legacy has announced its plans in response to US Food & Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention anti-tobacco campaigns and mass media initiatives. Legacy plans to launch a national advertising campaign in the next three years to supplement the federal government’s existing grassroots and digital outreach efforts. In a recent statement, Legacy recognized the role of counter marketing campaigns, federal tobacco excise taxes, and clean indoor air initiatives as the most proven methods of to prevent youth smoking. 2013 AAP Children's Art Contest - entry deadline extended!
The 2013 American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has extended the deadline for the 9th Annual Children’s Art Contest to August 30, 2013. Children in grades 3 through 12 are invited to submit original artwork on the theme, “A World Free from Tobacco and Secondhand Smoke.” The contest is open to boys and girls in three groups, grades 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12. Group winners and their parents/guardians will be invited to a presentation ceremony before several thousand pediatricians at the AAP National Conference & Exhibition in Orlando on Saturday, October 26, 2013.
