Heavy smoking may raise odds for lethal bladder cancer
A recent study suggests that heavy smokers are more likely to develop aggressive bladder cancers compared to individuals that smoke less or nonsmokers. Smoking has been identified as a common cause of bladder cancer. This study examined how smoking affects the progress of the disease. Data was gathered from 212 bladder cancer patients in Los Angeles County, California. The study found an association between heavier smoking and a higher risk of death from bladder cancer, which suggests that continued smoking after a cancer diagnosis worsens health outcomes. Bladder cancer is one of the most expensive types of cancers to treat. Click here to read more about this study published in Cancer. Click here to access the study abstract.
