Secondhand exposure to vapors from electronic cigarettes – Nicotine & Tobacco Research. A study measuring the nicotine, aerosol particles, carbon monoxide, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from secondhand exposure to three e-cigarette brands found that e-cigarettes were a source of secondhand exposure to nicotine but not to combustion toxicants. The average concentration of nicotine resulting from smoking tobacco cigarettes was 10 times higher than from e-cigarettes.
The effect of Philadelphia and Pennsylvania Clean Indoor Air Act on food services and drinking places sales and numbers, 1998-2011 – Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. An analysis of taxable county-level revenue, sales, and the number of food services and drinking places in Philadelphia found that the Pennsylvania Clean Indoor Air Act (CIAA) had no significant effect on adjusted sales, and an increase was observed in the number of some kinds of food services.

Impact of smoke-free policies on restaurants and bars project resources – CDC Foundation. The CDC Foundation, with CDC expertise, launched an initiative to provide restaurant and bar owners in nine southern states with scientific and experiential information on the impact of smoke-free policies on the hospitality industry. The initiative consists of state-specific videos featuring local restaurant and bar owners talking about their experiences operating under smoke-free laws and a study projecting the anticipated economic impact of a statewide smoke-free policy on restaurants and bars. South Dakota smoking ban: Three years later (SD) – Argusleader.com. Three years after South Dakota voters extended a smoking ban in public buildings to bars, restaurants and casinos, some of the health benefits proponents promised have shown up in statistics. Reductions have been observed in hospitalizations and smoking prevalence according to the State Department of Health, and members of the hospitality industry have also noted positive outcomes.

N.H. smoking ban could be broadened (NH) – Valley News. Since 2007, smoking has been banned at every New Hampshire bar and restaurant except buildings owned and operated by social, fraternal, or religious organizations such as American Legion halls, Veterans of Foreign Wars post canteens, and fraternal club lodges. The Legislature will decide in 2014 whether to end that exception and apply the state’s indoor smoking ban to those clubs.
