Webinar: Helping Smokers Quit: 2012 Report

This webinar will discuss the forthcoming report to be released by the American Lung Association titled “Helping Smokers Quit: Tobacco Cessation Coverage.” Highlights, trends and hot topics in tobacco cessation policy that are featured in the report will also be highlighted. The report, to be released on December 3rd, will contain data on smoking and cessation services and treatments offered in each state via Medicaid, state employee plans, and private insurance. Webinar: e-Quit: An Introduction to Web-Based Smoking Cessation Resources

C-Change and Legacy are conducting a webinar on strategies organizations can use to help smokers quit, including Comprehensive Cancer Control (CCC) coalitions, cancer centers, employers, and advocacy groups. Topics will include: an overview of the current evidence-based tobacco dependence treatments and the emergence of online and mobile resources presented by Dr. Richard Hurt from the Mayo Clinic; an introduction to the features of free web-based quit smoking resources such as BecomeAnEX.org, and specific examples of ways that community-based coalitions can utilize free or low-cost resources to promote quitting smoking. The program will feature the following presenters: Farzad Mostashari, MD, Director of the Office of the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology, and Michael Fiore, MD, Director, University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health Center for Tobacco Research and Intervention. The program will explain what Meaningful Use is, how tobacco use assessment and cessation treatment relate to it, and how the public comment process can make a difference.
