CDC seeks applicants for 2012-13 Evaluation Fellows Program
Fellows will work under the leadership of CDC's Chief Evaluation Officer; they will be assigned to specific CDC programs, developing and implementing program evaluations and studies for/with those programs. Host programs will compete for Fellows, to ensure the projects are ones that will enhance the knowledge base of the program and the professional development of the Fellow. Details about the Fellowship, stipends, qualifications and deadlines are available here. Resumes are due by COB on June 15, 2012. Action planning template for local tobacco control coalitions
The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) has developed an action planning template for local tobacco control coalitions. This template provides a single document that will allow tobacco control and prevention coalitions to develop objectives for their work, plan objective reaching activities, tracking, and planning. Register for upcoming sessions of TTAC's instructor-led web-based courses
The Tobacco Technical Assistance Consortium (TTAC) is offering two upcoming distance learning courses for public health practitioners. The 6-week Logic Model Essentials web-based course provides an understanding of the purpose and features of a logic model, the skills and tools needed to build a logic model, and knowledge of the important ways to apply logic model results. The next session of Logic Model Essentials will be held from July 16 - August 24, 2012. The 12-week Fundamentals of Evaluation web-based course guides participants through the evaluation process – from planning to reporting results – while giving them the opportunity to develop their own evaluation plan. The next Fundamentals of Evaluation course will be offered from September 10 - November 30, 2012. Both courses offer an engaging learning experience with visual aids, group discussion, self-assessments, and individual learning activities. Click here to register. Registration for Logic Model Essentials will close on July 6, 2012. The registration deadline for Fundamentals of Evaluation is August 31, 2012.
New web-based course: Making Health Communication Strategies Work for Your Program
In October, the Tobacco Technical Assistance Consortium (TTAC) and sister organization the Diabetes Training and Technical Assistance Center (DTTAC) hosted The Institute 2011, an annual leadership and training forum for state tobacco and diabetes prevention and control staff. The widely popular course, Making Health Communication Strategies Work for Your Program, is now available online free of charge. Led by staff from the CDC's Division of Diabetes Translation, the course provides a framework for planning and evaluating health communication activities that is grounded in the day-to-day realities of public health work. Complete with downloadable tools and checklists, as well as the opportunity to interact with instructors online, this course provides the skills, knowledge and resources needed to implement effective health communication strategies. New guidance for tobacco industry and investigators: Meetings with Industry and Investigators on the Research and Development of Tobacco Products
FDA has posted a new guidance document intended for any tobacco manufacturers, importers, researchers and/or investigators seeking meetings with staff of FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) regarding their plans to conduct research and/or develop new tobacco products for marketing, to inform about tobacco product research intended to expand scientific knowledge needed for FDA regulation of tobacco products, or to provide the data needed for premarket review requirements. This guidance document provides industry and investigators with information related to: What information FDA recommends be included in a meeting request; How and when to submit a request to FDA; and What information FDA recommends be submitted prior to the meeting. FDA dockets open for public comment
The FDA Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) has released two draft guidance documents. CTP uses public dockets through the Federal Register to solicit information from all stakeholders on a number of specific issues related to implementation of the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (Tobacco Control Act). Comments are being accepted from the public on each of the following dockets through June 4, 2012:
