Health Promotion Practice & APPEAL call for papers: Final deadline extended to July 15th!
The Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE)’s peer-reviewed journal, Health Promotion Practice (HPP), has extended the deadline one last time for its call for papers for a special theme issue highlighting successful strategies and promising practices to support and sustain the reduction in tobacco use of Asian Americans (AAs) and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders (NHPIs). This special issue is a collaborative effort of Asian Pacific Partners for Empowerment, Advocacy and Leadership (APPEAL) and SOPHE. In particular, manuscripts are needed on NHPIs and strategies to counter the tobacco industry. All manuscripts should focus on a tobacco control practice that can lead to policy change or social norm change. Manuscripts should be submitted on or before July 15, 2012. Online resource "Tobacco Free" launched to help patients quit tobacco use
The Association of Clinicians for the Underserved (ACU) is a nonprofit organization comprised of clinicians, advocates and healthcare organizations united to improve the health of America’s underserved populations to enhance the development and support of healthcare clinicians serving these populations. ACU just launched, “Tobacco Free,” an online resource to gather tools and information to help patients quit tobacco. It is specifically designed for practitioners who work with the underserved. Tools include tobacco control systems change and policy models, motivational interviewing examples/strategies and information on pharmacotherapy for use within underserved communities.
Report addressing smoking in low socioeconomic status population in California (CA)
The Break Free Alliance has compiled a California-focused report, Smoking in Low Socioeconomic Status Populations: Prevalence, Health Impact, Challenges and Recommendations. The report outlines smoking behavior and its health impact among low SES populations in California, and includes information on challenges and recommendations for people who work with individuals from low SES communities, as well as policymakers.
