Sperm of smoking dads can hurt child DNA
New research published in The FASEB Journal suggests that men who smoke prior to conception can damage the DNA of their future children. Research conducted by the School of Life Sciences at the University of Bradford in England measured genetic changes in the paternal blood and semen around conception, and the maternal blood and umbilical cord at delivery from families in two different European regions. The data suggest that the DNA changes that occurred could increase the risk of a child developing leukemia, and possibly genetic diseases. Researchers hope that information gleaned from this study will influence men, and not solely women, to stop smoking before trying to conceive. Click here to read more.
