Register for the Fundamentals of Evaluation web-based course
This fall, the Tobacco Technical Assistance Consortium (TTAC) is offering Fundamentals of Evaluation, a distance learning course for public health practitioners. This 12-week web-based course guides participants through the evaluation process – from planning to reporting results – while giving them the opportunity to develop their own evaluation plan. The course is instructor-led, and offers an interactive and engaging learning experience with visual aids, group discussion, self-assessments, and individual learning activities. Fundamentals of Evaluation is recommended for public health professionals planning, completing, or assisting with an evaluation; decision-makers responsible for selecting a professional evaluator; or anyone with a desire or need to gain a better understanding of the core concepts of evaluation and evaluation planning. FDA Announcements
Pledge to protect kids from tobacco
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is encouraging the public to take a pledge in support of responsible retailing of tobacco. The FDA is asking tobacco retailers, parents, students, teachers, healthcare providers, community leaders, and public health professionals to pledge that they will take steps such as supporting local retailers that are adhering to tobacco control laws, reporting violations, and sharing federal tobacco legislation information with retailers in their community. Supporters can post the badge they receive for taking the pledge on their individual social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. This pledge aims to spread the word to help prevent retailers from selling tobacco to youth which can lead to negative health effects and addiction.
