Call for nominations: American Lung Association and Koop Foundation, Inc. Unsung Heroes' Award
There are hundreds, perhaps thousands, of people diligently at work in the Tobacco Wars, fighting against the overwhelming financial superiority of Big Tobacco. They are frequently unrecognized in spite of their perseverance and major contributions to the anti-tobacco effort. They are indeed truly unsung heroes. It is the purpose of the Unsung Heroes' Award, presented jointly by the American Lung Association and the Koop Foundation, Inc., to recognize one of these individuals annually. Legacy's 2012 Tobacco Industry Documents Awards
Legacy is pleased to announce the call for nominations for the 2012 Tobacco Industry Documents Awards. These awards recognize individuals who have made a significant and well-recognized contribution to the health of the public in the recent past through use of tobacco documents. The awards honor innovation in the use and application of tobacco industry documents to further the goals of tobacco prevention and control in order to help build a world where young people reject tobacco and anyone can quit. Those nominated should be individuals who have made a notable impact through innovative use of tobacco industry documents as applied to research, policy, or advocacy. These awards will be presented at the National Conference on Tobacco or Health to be held August 15-17, 2012 in Kansas City, Missouri. Maurice "Mo" Mullet Lifetime of Service Award for current or former local health officials
The National Association of City and County Health Officials (NACCHO) is now accepting nominations for the 2012 Maurice “Mo” Mullet Lifetime of Service Award. This award honors current or former local health officials for noteworthy service to NACCHO, and the field of local public health, that has reflected the commitment, vigor, and leadership exemplified by Mo’s distinguished career. The recipient of this award will have demonstrated the following achievements: Leadership among local health departments demonstrated by energetic service to NACCHO; Significant contributions to the field of local public health practice as a thoughtful leader and representative of NACCHO; and Commitment, skill, and effort demonstrated on behalf of NACCHO. Dr. Alma S. Adams Scholarship for Outreach and Health Communication
Applications are now being accepted for the Dr. Alma S. Adams Scholarship for Outreach and Health Communications to reduce tobacco use among priority populations that are disproportionately targeted by the tobacco industry, or who often lack the tools and resources to combat smoking in their communities. Two $5,000 awards will be granted on a competitive basis for the following: a) a record of commitment to community service on behalf of an underserved community, preferably related to tobacco prevention and/or control and b) the best use of the visual arts, media, creative writing or other creative endeavor to convey culturally appropriate health messages aimed at raising awareness of tobacco’s harmful impact.
