Many members of the public health community do not fully understand the federal regulatory process, the procedure for interacting with the FDA as a regulatory authority, or the types of information and evidence that will allow the FDA to act decisively. In this webinar, Consortium attorneys will provide an interactive tour of the agency's website, describe the kind of information the agency will find most helpful in advancing tobacco regulation, and discuss the process for submitting comments to the FDA. Webinar: Winning the Battle: Impacting Tobacco Control in the Real World

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Richmond Center of Excellence will hold a webinar which will discuss strategies for successfully pursuing a tobacco control agenda while facing opposition at the community, state, and national levels. Webinar: Practical Applications of the New Joint Commission Tobacco Standards – Revenue and Clinical Opportunities for Tobacco Specialists and Hospital Administrators

Co-hosted by the Smoking Cessation Leadership Center (SCLC) and the Association for the Treatment of Tobacco Use and Dependence (ATTUD), this webinar will provide a brief overview of the Joint Commission’s new tobacco Core Measures, and help attendees understand the potential clinical benefits both specific to hospitals (e.g. reduced readmission, reduced surgical and procedural complication rates) and other beneficial outcomes. Speakers will discuss the potential revenue sources (billing) for hospitals and how the standards are an opportunity for positive return on investment, address challenges facing hospitals considering adoption of the tobacco measures, and discuss lessons learned and challenges from a pilot site. NAATPN Webinar: Telling the Public Health Story to the FDA

Sponsored by the National African American Tobacco Prevention Network and featuring staff attorneys Mike Freiberg and Joelle Lester from the Tobacco Control Legal Consortium, this interactive session will help attendees understand how to interact directly with the FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products to help the agency further public health. Many members of the public health community still do not fully understand the federal regulatory process, the procedure for interacting with FDA as a regulatory authority, or the types of information and evidence that will allow the FDA to act decisively. Barriers to participation in the regulatory process are likely to exclude underrepresented communities in particular. Therefore, educating and mobilizing African American public health advocates is critical to ensuring that the regulations ultimately enacted reflect the African American community’s evidence and experience. In this session, staff from the Tobacco Control Legal Consortium will teach attendees the process for submitting comments to the FDA on tobacco regulation. As an official ancillary meeting to the National Conference on Tobacco or Health, the LGBTQ Health Equity Summit will address promising practices in both LGBT health and tobacco control. The goal of this event is to give participants tools and strategies to strengthen and advance their movements in their own communities. POSTPONED: NCTOH ancillary workshops from the Multi-State Collaborative

The Multi-State Collaborative for Health Systems Change has decided to postpone its August 14 National Conference on Tobacco or Health ancillary workshops to a later date in the fall to provide more dedicated time to focus on these important topics. This change will provide expanded opportunities for participation, especially among those unable to attend due to competing meetings on August 14. An announcement of the new date and location will be sent as the Collaborative works with the CDC’s Office on Smoking and Health and other partners to reschedule.
