Smoking linked to earlier menopause
A new meta-analysis of eleven studies shows that women who smoke reach menopause earlier than women who do not smoke. Results from the study show that on average, women who smoked started natural menopause a year earlier than their nonsmoking counterparts. This is of concern because early menopause has been linked to a number of health risks, including osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, and Alzheimer's disease.
