Summer Webinar Series – Addressing Tobacco Use in Correctional Facilities
Starting July 12, 2011
Break Free Alliance will be hosting a four-part webinar series to address tobacco use among correctional and post-correctional populations. Subjects include how to implement tobacco cessation programming and comprehensive tobacco control policies in correctional settings, as well as linking newly released inmates with community-based cessation resources. Webinar: Best Practices in Adolescent Smoking

The American Academy of Pediatrics Julius B. Richmond Center of Excellence will be holding the second webinar of a five part series on July 27 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. CDT. This webinar will focus on the best practices for addressing tobacco prevention and cessation with adolescents in both the clinical and community setting. Scheduled presenters are Susanne Tanski, MD, MPH, FAAP and Rosie Henson, Senior Policy Advisor for the US Assistant Secretary of Health. Public workshop: Scientific Evaluation of Modified Risk Tobacco Product (MRTP) Applications

The FDA Center for Tobacco Products (FDA-CTP) is holding a public workshop to discuss issues pertinent to the scientific evaluation of modified risk tobacco products (MRTPs). The workshop will feature five moderated panel discussions. Scientific and medical experts and other interested participants from academia, public health organizations, federal, state and local government agencies, consumer groups, and the tobacco industry are encouraged to attend. The purpose of this 3-day skills-building and strategy planning Institute is to enhance awareness of the dangers of secondhand smoke, share recent science and economic data and first-hand experiences, and expand the capacity of smoke-free advocates, researchers, and other public health professionals nationwide. This year, the Institute will also feature stories about what went wrong in real-life smoke-free campaigns from smoke-free advocates who have learned lessons the hard way.
