Call for applications: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Evaluation Fellows Program
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is seeking applicants for the inaugural class of the CDC Evaluation Fellows Program.  This is a new initiative within CDC and a major commitment by CDC to program evaluation and program improvement.  Fellows will work under the leadership of CDC's Chief Evaluation Officer; they will be assigned to specific CDC programs, developing and implementing program evaluations and studies for/with those programs.  Host programs will compete for Fellows, to ensure the projects are ones that will enhance the knowledge base of the program and the professional development of the Fellow. The appointment will be full-time at the CDC in the Atlanta, Georgia area. Resumes are due by September 16, 2011. FDA Announcements

FDA opens docket for harmful and potentially harmful constituents in tobacco products and tobacco smoke
The Food and Drug Administration Center for Tobacco Products (FDA-CTP) has opened a public docket to allow the public to submit comments, including scientific and other information, concerning the harmful and potentially harmful constituents (HPHCs) in tobacco products and tobacco smoke. This information will assist the agency in establishing a list of HPHCs in tobacco products and tobacco smoke (the HPHC list). FDA-CTP uses public dockets through the Federal Register to solicit information from all stakeholders on a number of specific issues related to implementation of the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act. The deadline for comments on this docket, FDA–2011–N–0271, is October 11, 2011. Click here to learn about how to submit a comment.

Retailer tobacco compliance training webinars available
The FDA Center for Tobacco Products has hosted webinars that will help retailers to understand and comply with federal tobacco regulations. Click here to view past webinars on topics including cigarette warning labels, smokeless tobacco product packaging and advertising, and warning letters and civil money penalties.

States awarded FDA tobacco retail inspection contracts
 This summer, the FDA Center for Tobacco products has begun to award funding for fiscal year 2011 to state agencies to assist with inspections of retail establishments and other tobacco enforcement activities. The FDA is working to eventually establish contracts with all states and territories to launch similar programs. Click here for a list of agencies that have been awarded contracts.

New FAQs and fact sheets available
The FDA Center for Tobacco Products has developed new consumer fact sheets on a variety of topics including the Tobacco Control Act, the Center for Tobacco Products, and Regulations Restricting the Sale, Distribution, and Marketing of Cigarettes and Smokeless Tobacco.
