Webinar: Stop Smoking Helpline for Korean smokers
November 3, 2010
APICAT (Asian Pacific Islander Coalition Against Tobacco) will be hosting a webinar on the Asian Quitline for the Korean community on Wednesday, November 3 from 6-7 pm PST. The guest speaker will be Dr. Hye-Ryeon Lee, PhD - University of Hawaii. Dr. Hye-Ryeon Lee has been involved in the implementation of the Korean language Stop Smoking Helpline in Hawaii. This webinar will provide an opportunity for participants to learn more about the project, ask Dr. Lee questions, and then refer patients /community members who are interested in quitting smoking. The webinar will be held in Korean. The Helpline will be coming to Washington State in January 2011, and a 3-year CDC-funded project is underway to bring the Asian Quitline to other states. States wanting to learn more about the quitline project are invited to participate, as are states that are currently part of the project and would like to provide more information to the Korean community. Web Forum: Investing in community prevention: A dialogue with federal leadership on the Community Transformation Grants and the National Prevention Strategy

Webinar: Do quitlines have a role in serving the tobacco cessation needs of persons with mental illnesses and substance abuse disorders?

On Thursday, November 18, 2010, at 1pm ET/12 noon CT/11 am MT/10 am PT, The North American Quitline Consortium (NAQC) and the Smoking Cessation Leadership Center (SCLC) are co-hosting a free 90-minute webinar to unveil the new Behavioral Health Advisory Forum Report on Quitline Callers with Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders. This presentation will address the rationale for the creation of the national Quitline Behavioral Health Advisory Forum and highlights from the Advisory Forum report, and will feature presentations from Chad Morris, Ph.D. and Gary Tedeschi, Ph.D. Dr. Morris is an Associate Professor at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and Director of the Behavioral Health & Wellness Program. Great American Smokeout

The 35th annual Great American Smokeout (GASO) will be held on November 18, 2010. This event is held each year on the third Thursday in November to encourage smokers to quit for a day in the hope they may quit for good. Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT) 17th Annual Meeting

The 17th annual Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco annual meeting will be held from February 16-19, 2011 in Toronto, Canada. The Rapid Response Abstract system will soon open for abstracts submissions for the conference and pre-conference workshops. Abstracts will be accepted from December 1, 2010 through January 4, 2011. The 6th National Summit Smokeless and Spit Tobacco is designed especially for professionals and advocates working in the field of smokeless tobacco use prevention and cessation. The theme for this year is "The New Face of Smokeless Tobacco Addiction.” The conference will raise awareness of the dangers of smokeless tobacco products and broaden the national coalition of organizations, agencies, and individuals committed to reducing and eventually eliminating the use of smokeless and spit tobacco products.
