The National African American Tobacco Prevention Network (NAATPN) announces its 2010-2011 Webinar Series

The National African American Tobacco Prevention Network will be holding a series of webinars in 2011. The first webinar, to be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, will include a discussion led by NAATPN of the findings in the FDA's Supplemental Guide on Menthol. Future webinars will topics will be: "The Impact of the FDA Regulations in the Black Community," to be held on April 13, 2011 and, "Our Partner Showcase & the CDC National Networks are a Valuable Resource to You and Your Community" on June 8, 2011. Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT) 17th Annual Meeting

The 17th annual Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco annual meeting will be held from February 16-19, 2011 in Toronto, Canada. The Rapid Response Abstract system will soon open for abstracts submissions for the conference and pre-conference workshops. Abstracts will be accepted from December 1, 2010 through January 4, 2011. SRNT was founded in 1994 to coordinate and advance research on a broad array of topics ranging from the pharmacology of nicotine to the societal influences on use of tobacco.

Reducing Tobacco Use 2011 Conference

Tobacco Research Intensive Lecture Series

Save the date! The Translational Tobacco Reduction Research (T2R2) program, a shared program of the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center and the West Virginia University Prevention Research Center, is once again sponsoring the Tobacco Research Intensive Lecture Series (TRILS) scheduled for April 4-8, 2011. This series will feature nationally known experts from across the country presenting on Tobacco and Co-Occurring Health Risks and Disparities at West Virginia University's Health Sciences Center in Morgantown, West Virginia. The Tobacco Research Intensive Lecture Series is an annual event that includes presentations by national experts on treating tobacco dependence in different populations. The last day concludes with a panel discussion and an opportunity for attendees to pose questions and participate in discussion. More details about the 2011 lecture series will be circulated as they become available.

National Summit on Smokeless & Spit Tobacco

The 6th National Summit Smokeless and Spit Tobacco is designed especially for professionals and advocates working in the field of smokeless tobacco use prevention and cessation. The theme for this year is "The New Face of Smokeless Tobacco Addiction." The conference will raise awareness of the dangers of smokeless tobacco products and broaden the national coalition of organizations, agencies, and individuals committed to reducing and eventually eliminating the use of smokeless and spit tobacco products. Participants will learn about the latest research in the field, and share strategies that have proven effective and successful in the fight against smokeless tobacco. Click here for more information. The purpose of this 3-day skills-building and strategy planning Institute is to enhance awareness of the dangers of secondhand smoke, share recent science and economic data and first-hand experiences, and expand the capacity of smoke-free advocates, researchers, and other public health professionals nationwide.
