NACCHO/NALBOH grant for local tobacco control: Developing Capacity To Support Tobacco Prevention And Control Efforts
The National Association of Local Boards of Health (NALBOH) and the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), with support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Office on Smoking and Health (CDC/OSH), are pleased to offer this opportunity for capacity building to improve the ability of local public health professionals, leaders, and tobacco control advocates to plan and implement activities that will support tobacco control program efforts and resources over the long term. The meeting will be conducted in the host’s community and is designed to improve the capacity of community-based stakeholders and partners by forming a local team to share knowledge about CDC-approved programming and funding guidelines for comprehensive local tobacco control programs and to promote ongoing commitment and resources for tobacco control efforts. American Medical Association Foundation - Healthy Living Grant Program
The American Medical Association Foundation is awarding grants to organizations focused on one of the following areas: nutrition/physical fitness; alcohol, substance abuse and smoking prevention; or violence prevention. Grants of up to $5,000 will be awarded. The AMA Foundation typically awards between 15-25 grants. Eligible organizations must be a nonprofit organization in existence for at least one year; have an annual operating budget of $500,000 or less; the project target audience must be an underserved and/or at-risk population; and the project target audience must be youth/young adults between the ages of 2-21. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health for Communities Organized to Respond and Evaluate (REACH CORE)
The CDC has announced a grant opportunity designed to support local communities in organizing, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based policy, system, and environmental change interventions that eliminate racial and ethnic health disparities in chronic diseases. This program will support the transition of communities from the analysis of intervention results to the use of these results in facilitating health equity and policy change. The evidence-based policy, systems, and environmental change strategies that emerge from the REACH CORE program provide the needed complement to the evidence-based behavioral change and community interventions from REACH U.S. to most effectively eliminate racial and ethnic health disparities at the population level. Request for Proposals: California Tobacco Control I-Clearinghouse
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH), California Tobacco Control Program (CTCP) has released the Funding Opportunity Alert for Request for Proposals (RFP) CTCP 10-10046, California Tobacco Control I-Clearinghouse.  The purpose of the RFP is to focus on clearinghouse services. The contract term will be from November 1, 2010 through October 31, 2013.  The anticipated RFP release date is July 1, 2010, and the anticipated application due date is August 12, 2010. Information pertaining to the Funding Opportunity Alert can be found here. Call for Nominations: 2010 Community Activist Award
Legacy is pleased to announce the call for nominations for the 2010 Community Activist Award. The award celebrates exceptional individuals who demonstrate extraordinary commitment to creating a tobacco-free world in their local community. Each nominee must be a recognized leader in his or her community with experience spearheading innovative and influential tobacco control projects, especially those that reflect Legacy’s mission to build a world where young people reject tobacco and anyone can quit.
