Webinar: Sabemos - a Hispanic/Latino Smoke Free Outreach Initiative

On Wednesday, July 1, 2009 from 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM EDT, this webinar will present information on smoke free home and cars initiatives. Sabemos is a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention community outreach campaign with tools and resources to promote tobacco-free environments for Hispanic/Latino youth. A goal of the campaign is to provide culturally relevant messages for Hispanic/Latino community leaders to effectively reach intended audiences. TCLN Conference Call Series: Medicaid Partnership Project Case Studies

Save the date for the upcoming Tobacco Control Law Network (TCLN) conference call series. The series is on improving the use of Medicaid cessation services through partnerships between Medicaid and Tobacco Control programs. The conference calls series is based on the results of the Medicaid Partnership Project, which has been funded by the CDC’s Office on Smoking and Health. The Project has compiled case studies from six states to help identify best practices for increasing access and use of Medicaid benefits and services. These case studies, together with summary information and resources have been compiled into a Medicaid Partnership Project report, which will be available on the TCLN website by July 17th. The upcoming conference call series will present these case studies and summary information and provide an opportunity for questions and discussion. All calls will be at 2:00 PM, EDT. 5th National Summit on Smokeless and Spit Tobacco

The 5th National Summit on Smokeless and Spit Tobacco is designed to support health care professionals, public health and policy professionals, tobacco treatment specialists, scientists, physicians, dentists, dental hygienists, state and federal tobacco prevention and control administrators, tobacco program staff and advocates who have an interest in smokeless and spit tobacco. The Summit is the primary forum professionals in the smokeless tobacco field have to come together to learn of best practices, share success stories, hear about prevention and cessation approaches that work, and become aware of the latest research in the field. It also provides these professionals a specific opportunity to network with their colleagues nationally and internationally. Jack Henningfield will be the keynote speaker, and the summit will include sessions on Interventions and Policy, New Science, Priority Populations/New Users, Cessation, Taxation/New Products Policy and more. Representatives of the American Legacy Foundation, Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, the National African American Tobacco Prevention Network, Praxis, University of Maryland, Howard University, National Latino Tobacco Control Network, and the Tobacco Related Disease Research Program at the University of California Office of the President want to strongly urge you to set aside October 19 and 20, 2009 for an important meeting on Menthol in Tobacco Products. The goal of the Break Free Alliance is to engage key organizations serving low SES populations in tobacco control efforts and to assist them with resource development and assessments, technical assistance, capacity building, and evaluation to prevent and reduce tobacco use in low-income communities.
