Call for Abstracts:  Third National Leadership Summit on Eliminating Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Health
The Office of Minority Health (OMH), Department of Health and Human Services, issues this Call for Abstracts for oral and poster presentations as part of the Third National Leadership Summit on Eliminating Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities. The Summit will include sessions which highlight progress, challenges, and opportunities for improving the health of minority populations since the release of the 1985 “Report of the Secretary's Task Force on Black and Minority Health." As part of OMH's broader initiative to eliminate racial and ethnic health disparities, this 2009 Summit will: (1) build a renewed sense of leadership and partnerships across communities, (2) share success stories and methods, (3) demonstrate how model programs can be replicated or tailored for greater impact, and (4) create methods, tactics, and ideas that support more effective and efficient action. Results of the Summit will become part of the National Blueprint for Action, which will guide OMH and its public and private partners. Abstracts are due by December 1. Read more here.

Call for NALBOH 2009 Abstracts and Exhibit Sponsors:
National Association of Local Boards of Health NALBOH’s 17th Annual Conference provides board of health members, senior agency officials, and national public health leaders with an opportunity to expand their knowledge of public health.The conference is designed to provide attendees with the most current information about public health issues, products, and services available. Call for NALBOH 2009 Proposals:
American Legacy is currently accepting applications for their Legacy Innovative Grants (LIG). Through the LIG, the American Legacy Foundation supports projects that advance creative solutions to the challenges caused by tobacco use in America.  Legacy created Innovative Grants to enable organizations to pilot new projects, based on sound principles of tobacco control.  Legacy provides up to $100,000 for the first year of funding. The deadline for letters of intent is Monday January 5, 2009 at 5:00pm EST, with the full proposal due March 13, 2009 and the funding slated to begin in June 2009.  The American Legacy Foundation would love to see several LGBT groups apply for this funding; the Network is able to review grant applications as well as assist with inquiries regarding LGBT tobacco. Request for Proposals:  NACCHO healthy communities demonstration sites
NACCHO, with support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), plans to award up to $30,000 each to 10 local health departments (LHDs) to: 1) build or strengthen a coalition of community partners and 2) develop a community action plan to address chronic disease risk factors such as physical inactivity, poor nutrition, and tobacco use at the policy, systems, and environmental change levels. Applicants will be asked to submit an application, a proposal addressing the criteria for selection, a proposed budget request, and three letters of support from community partners. Call for nominations: The 2009 Tobacco Industry Documents Awards
Help the American Legacy Foundation promote innovative uses of tobacco industry documents! Legacy is now accepting nominations for the 2009 Tobacco Industry Documents Awards, including the Sybil G. Jacobs Adult Award for Outstanding Use of Tobacco Industry Documents and the Christine O. Gregoire Youth/Young Adult Ward for Outstanding Use of Tobacco Industry Documents.  These awards recognize research, policy, and advocacy contributions that resulted in tangible, positive actions from traditional or innovative uses of tobacco industry documents. Winners receive $7,500 and will be honored during the National Conference on Tobacco or Health in Phoenix, AZ, on June 11, 2009.
