WHO World No Tobacco Day
May 31, 2008
World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) is part of the World Health Organization’s Tobacco Free Initiative to decrease the negative effects of tobacco products on the world’s health. This year’s theme is Tobacco-Free Youth. More than 85% of the world’s youth population (ages 10-24) lives in developing countries, many of which have no regulations on tobacco sales to children. The main WNTD campaign message is that one of the most effective ways countries can protect young people from experimenting and becoming regular tobacco users is to ban all forms of direct and indirect tobacco advertising, including promotion of tobacco products and sponsorship, by the tobacco industry, of any events or activities. Click here to learn more, and to request or download WNTD materials.
