Call for Abstracts:  6th Annual LGBTQ Tobacco Summit:  Be A Movement, Not A Market
This conference will be held September 22-23, 2008 in Kansas City, MO, and is sponsored by the National LGBTQ Tobacco Control Network. The summit planning committee invites abstract submissions that address specific issues, approaches, or strategies that contribute to tobacco work in LGBTQ communities. Abstracts will be accepted for breakout sessions and poster presentations. Abstract submissions will be accepted beginning Monday, July 28 with a submission deadline of August 15, 2008. Call for Nominations: Legacy’s Community Activist Award
The American Legacy Foundation® is pleased to announce its call for nominations for the 2009 Community Activist Award. The award recognizes exceptional individuals who demonstrate leadership and courage in working toward a tobacco-free world.  Each nominee must be a recognized leader in his or her community with involvement spearheading innovative and impactful tobacco control projects, especially activities that support Legacy’s mission to build a world where young people reject tobacco and anyone can quit. The recipient of the sixth annual Community Activist Award will be honored in March 2009 in New York City at the foundation’s annual fundraising event.  Past winners represent nearly 50 years of combined commitment to tobacco prevention and control in the areas of activism, advocacy, community-based research and community-level education. The 2009 honoree will be selected by a five-member panel comprised of state and national tobacco control leaders.  Nominations will be accepted online through Friday, September 19, 2008. Call for Nominations:  The Luther L. Terry Awards for Exemplary Leadership in Tobacco Control
The American Cancer Society announces the opening of the call for nominations of the Luther L. Terry Awards for Exemplary Leadership in Tobacco Control. Named for the late United States Surgeon General Luther L. Terry, M.D., the awards recognize outstanding worldwide achievement in the field of tobacco control. The awards will be presented at the 14th World Conference on Tobacco OR Health, in Mumbai, India in March 2009. The 2009 awards will be presented for Outstanding Community Service, Outstanding Individual Leadership, Outstanding Organization, Outstanding Research Contribution, Exemplary Leadership by a Government Ministry, and Distinguished Career.
