Oregon: Healthy kids group runs first TV ad statewide
The Healthy Kids Group of Oregon has released its first statewide television advertisement in support of Measure 50, which would raise the state’s cigarette tax by 84.5 cents. The ad also refutes some of the claims made by a tobacco industry television advertisement that was released several days before. Oregon: Measure 50 supporters want to send message to tobacco companies
In the November elections, Oregonians will have the opportunity to vote on Measure 50, which would increase Oregon’s state cigarette tax by 84.5 cents per pack. Already a hotly contested ballot measure, the debate is intensifying to an even further degree after the release of R.J. Reynolds’ latest advertisement against the measure. The ad casts doubt on whether the revenue generated from this tax increase would go directly to funding health insurance for needy children. In response, the Healthy Kids Campaign has released its own set of ads that seek to clarify how the money will be spent. While the majority of the revenue will be spent to fund children’s healthcare, another portion will fund low-income adults and the medically underserved, which is clearly indicated in the ballot measure title and accompanying explanation.
