Imperial gets conditional EU approval to buy Altadis
Imperial Tobacco Group has received European approval to purchase Madrid-based Altadis after it sells some of its brands to address competition concerns. Accordingly, Imperial will give up at least one brand in roll-your-own markets in France, Italy, Portugal and Spain, pipe tobacco in Finland and France and cigars in Greece. New Philip Morris research center has special mission
Philip Morris USA’s new $350 million research center in Richmond, Virginia will soon house 400 researchers and scientists in the hopes of developing a less harmful cigarette. The facility includes a 50-seat lecture hall, a library, laboratories to investigate the health effects of tobacco products, and rooms for focus groups and consumer testing of various products. General Tobacco settles trademark dispute
General Tobacco has resolved a trademark dispute with rival company Premier Manufacturing regarding Premier’s Wildhorse cigarette brand. A federal court judge in Kentucky ruled that General Tobacco’s horse emblem on the General Bronco brand was time-honored and well recognized.
