New videos on smoke-free restaurants, bars, and hotels
To help make the case for business support of smoke-free workplace laws, Kids Involuntarily Inhaling Secondhand Smoke (KIISS) has produced an updated series of short videos in conjunction with Americans for Nonsmokers' Rights and the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. The videos were produced with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. There are three separate videos - one on restaurants and bars, the second on bars and the third on hotels. These videos are the follow-up to the highly successful "Straight Talk" video from a couple years ago. All three videos make the case that smoke-free laws are easily implemented, have broad public support, and do not hurt business. See the videos here.
Are You an Accidental Smoker?
Information from the American Cancer Society on secondhand smoke states that there is no “safe level” of secondhand smoke, and lists the health dangers associated with cigarette smoke. Read more here; the website includes a link to the American Lung Association site, which describes smoking restrictions by state.
Code blue for lung cancer
This national public service campaign was produced in 2006 by the American Legacy Foundation in partnership with the National Association of Broadcasters. Code Blue includes a 30-minute documentary that explores the devastating impact of lung cancer on four families and discusses how to reduce lung cancer deaths, primarily through early diagnosis and by quitting smoking. The campaign, in both English and Spanish, also includes radio and television public service announcements, a guidebook for local broadcasters, and an accompanying online component.
