Legal Update – July 2007
The latest issue of the Legal Update, the newsletter of the Tobacco Control Legal Consortium, is now available. Featured this month are updates on the Second Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the world’s first health treaty, the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. The Update also overviews recent significant tobacco rulings in the Schwab and Watson “light” cigarettes cases, as well as a case pending before the U.S. Supreme Court involving the right of a state to regulate the sale of tobacco via the Internet. Finally, the Update includes notes on several local legal challenges to smokefree laws, “Ask the Lawyer” and “Global Perspective” features, links to useful tobacco law-related resources, and information on upcoming events. American Legacy Foundation honors champion of anti-tobacco fight
The American Legacy Foundation has created a new distinguished professorship in tobacco control, and recently bestowed the first award on Dr. Stanton Glantz from the University of California, San Francisco. Click here to read more about the professorship and about Dr. Glantz’s career.
