University of Pittsburgh study finds inequality in tobacco advertising
Recent research conducted by the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine has revealed that African Americans are exposed to more pro-tobacco advertising than Caucasians. In the meta-analysis, researchers calculated the concentration and density of tobacco advertisements in each market. They found that the concentration of pro-tobacco signage, or number of tobacco advertisements divided by the total number of advertisements for any product, was 70 percent higher for African Americans. The results also indicated that there are approximately 2.6 times as many advertisements per person in African American neighborhoods as there are in Caucasian neighborhoods.
