Bank of America Community Awards
The Bank of America is offering funding to local organizations and individuals working to fulfill their communities' potential through its Neighborhood Excellence Grants. The deadline for applications is June 30th.

The grants break down into three categories: Neighborhood Builders, Local Heroes, and Student Leaders. Neighborhood Builders grants will provide $200,000 in funding for up to two years to cover operational support and leadership training to two community-focused 501(c)(3) nonprofits; Local Heroes grants honors community leaders who have made a superlative contribution to their communities and includes a $5,000 contribution to the recipient's charity of choice.

Under the Student Leaders program, five high-school juniors or seniors committed to helping their communities will receive an eight-week paid internship with a nonprofit organization and participate in a Bank of America mentorship program with local executives.

Organizations and persons in thirty-eight of Bank of America's nationwide markets are eligible to apply for these grants. For full information on application and eligibility, visit the Bank of America Charitable Foundation at http://www.bankofamerica.com/foundation/.

Tobacco Policy Change grants from RWJF
On June 1, 2006, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) will release a call for proposals for Tobacco Policy Change: A Collaborative for Healthier Communities and States. Tobacco Policy Change is a national initiative created to ensure continued momentum on effective tobacco control policies and to extend that momentum to communities where people are most vulnerable to tobacco's devastating impact. No previous experience working in tobacco prevention or control is necessary to apply for a program grant, but experience in policy advocacy and community engagement is a must.

Through Tobacco Policy Change, RWJF is investing in cutting edge collaborations that directly address disparities in tobacco use and exposure. Using advocacy, communications and community partnerships, Tobacco Policy Change programs support efforts to: promote clean indoor air in workplaces and other public places; reduce smoking rates among minority populations; gain smoking cessation services for low wage earners; and promote the benefits of tobacco tax increases in preventing smoking among young people.

We invite you to learn more about this opportunity by participating in a RWJF Tobacco Policy Change Pre-Application Workshop designed to answer questions about the Tobacco Policy Change initiative and the call for proposals.
Five workshops will be held, as noted below. Each workshop will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and lunch will be provided.
