truth® tour
June - August 2005, Throughout the U.S.
truth®, the national youth smoking prevention
campaign, returns in full force to celebrate the sixth year
of its annual summer tour - “truth® Orange”-
targeting teenagers across the nation. The purpose of the
tour is to connect with young people in their own communities,
tell the truth about tobacco, and counteract the marketing
and manufacturing tactics of the tobacco industry. This year’s
grassroots initiative will travel across the country visiting
50 cities and 31 states with the most heavily attended summer
tours ranging from the mainstream to the culturally diverse.
Kicking off June 10th, this summer’s program will include
participation at the 2005 AND 1 Mix Tape Tour® (30 stops),
the Vans Warped Tour® (41 stops). For the first time,
truth® will participate in the CosmoGIRL!
Beach House Tour further extending the brand’s outreach

Working with Tribal Health Organizations to Help
Pregnant Smokers Quit Conference Call

The National Partnership to Help Pregnant Smokers Quit will
be involved in a State Outreach Technical Assistance Conference
Call about Working with Tribal Health organization to Help
Pregnant Smokers Quit. The National Partnership health care
provider working group has been working with tribal organizations
around the country, and would like to share information from
these collaborations. In addition, the upcoming action plan
to work with American Indian communities will be discussed.

Beginning in September, TTAC is offering a two-day sustainability
workshop at each of the following locations:

- Atlanta, GA - January 19-20, 2006
The workshop is designed to help your organization develop
a winning combination of strategy, planning, leadership, and
fund raising, to go the distance and achieve organizational
sustainability. Participants will learn the “how to”
for achieving sustainability, by:
- Building and strengthening an organization’s core
to achieve its mission.
- Positioning an organization and its activities strategically
to be fundable and funded.
- Identifying appropriate and desired funding sources to
secure both immediate and long term funding.

3rd National Prevention Summit: Innovations in Community
Prevention
October 24-25; Washington, D.C.
The Summit will focus on chronic disease prevention and health
promotion and will feature innovative prevention programs
that are making a difference in communities across the country.
These programs are focused on healthy lifestyle choices, including
eating a nutritious diet, being physically active, avoiding
high-risk behaviors, and getting preventive screenings to
prevent the major health burdens created by obesity, diabetes,
asthma, cancer, heart disease, and stroke. A special emphasis
this year will be placed on health promotion and disease prevention
for older Americans and the use of health literacy and information
technology to promote prevention. Secretary Leavitt will announce
the winners of this year's Innovation in Prevention Awards
at the Summit luncheon.

The Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs (AMCHP)
calls for abstracts for its 2006 annual conference to be held
March 4-8, 2006 in Arlington, VA. The theme of the conference
is early childhood. Session Types include: Pre-Conference
Skills Building Sessions, Workshop Sessions (90-minute panels),
Plenary Session (30-60 minute keynote presentations) and Poster
Sessions (graphic presentations of research or program). Click
