RFP for Evaluation of the Alberta Alcohol and Drug
Abuse Commission’s Smokers’ Help Line
A Request for Proposals for Evaluation of the Alberta Alcohol
and Drug Abuse Commission’s (AADAC) Smokers' Help Line
has been issued by the Government of Alberta, through the
Alberta Purchasing Connection. The evaluation is to focus
on the following elements: reach and awareness of the Smokers'
Help Line, utilization of Help Line services delivered, the
effectiveness of Help Line services in helping Albertans to
quit smoking, and the cost-effectiveness of Smokers' Help
Line in assisting smokers to quit smoking. The region of opportunity
is OPEN, meaning that this competition is open to USA research
organizations, as well as to research organizations in Canada.

Grants to Research 'Reduced Risk' Tobacco Products
The National
Institutes of Health (NIH), along with the National
Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National
Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), will award several grants
to fund research into the efficacy of so-called "reduced-risk"
tobacco products. The program is designed to "stimulate
multidisciplinary research on the chemical composition, behavior
of use, exposure to toxic agents, addictive properties, differential
toxicity, and individual and public-health impact of potential
reduced-exposure tobacco products," according to NIH.
Requests for funding for a maximum of five years should be
made under the investigator-initiated research project grants
(R01), or the two-year exploratory/developmental grant (R21)
mechanism.
Domestic and foreign public and private for profit and nonprofit
organizations, including faith-based charities and educational
institutions, are eligible to apply. No more than $200,000
may be requested in a single year. Submission deadlines vary.
