Overall Tobacco Control
The Tobacco Technical Assistance Consortium (TTAC)
recently released Tobacco 101: A comprehensive training
guide on tobacco control basics. The Tobacco 101
CD ROM is a comprehensive training guide that provides the
trainer with an easy-to-use curriculum. Tobacco 101
is a 14-hour learning experience designed to educate professionals
new to tobacco control on the fundamentals of tobacco and
tobacco prevention and control. The CD includes an introduction
to training teams, instructions for creating a learning environment,
a course overview curriculum learning objectives, PowerPoint
slides for presentation, handouts, a resource guide, video
clips, and other tools necessary to implement the training

Certified Tobacco Dependence Treatment Specialist (TTS)
Training
The Tobacco Dependence Program at the University of Medicine
and Dentistry of New Jersey, School of Public Health, offers
an intensive 5-Day Core TTS Training for health professionals
who want to provide effective tobacco dependence treatment
for their patients. This training is based on the US Public
Health Service Guidelines for Treatment of Tobacco Use and
Dependence and will provide health professionals with a basic
understanding of Tobacco Dependence as well as the latest
evidence-based treatment methods. Participants will learn
how to assess nicotine dependence, conduct treatment planning
and deliver face-to-face treatment, including counseling and
the use of medications.

Cessation
The Office on Smoking and Health (OSH) at the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention has developed an online
Cessation Resource Center. The Resource Center provides materials
and information on topics such as systematic health care change,
community programming, business resources, funding opportunities,
quit lines, and evaluation methods to support cessation. All

The Wyoming Tobacco Free Community Program Managers have
developed a toolkit designed to assist with promoting “Through
With Chew Week” and the “Great American Spit Out”
campaign. The “Through With Chew Week” was launched
in an effort to make spit, smokeless, snuff or chewing tobacco

Secondhand Smoke
The Tobacco Control Legal Consortium’s monthly Legal
Update is a short, user-friendly bulletin that provides
information on key legal developments affecting the tobacco
control community. The consortium is a national network of
legal resource centers working with national advocacy groups
and others to help advocates promote policy change. To view
