Use of Rick Stoddard Ad Series for Quitline Promotion – 11/2/06

Q: Has anyone used the Rick Stoddard ad series (from MA and available through
the MCRC) for Quitline Promotion? If so, what were the results? Any tips?

A:

  1. Kansas: The Kansas Tobacco Use Prevention program used these spots in 2004 and 2005. There are several spots, but we picked the four we thought were most appropriate and effective due to financial restraints. Rick was in Wichita during the middle of the campaign for the 2004 tobacco summit in November. He was very recognized while out in the public and well received in the school functions he attended. This was all before the American Cancer Society took over the Quitline so there are no numbers to support how the ads effected the number of calls.
     
  2. Rhode Island: Rhode Island used the Rick Stoddard ad series a few years back. The results were very good. The ads made the quitline ring. The personal testimony of what happened in their lives and the reality of how a person struggles with the physical and emotional pain, the gruesome treatment, and the suffering endured is very moving to say the least.
