Educating healthcare providers on tobacco use disparities among people with disabilities – 8/28/09

Q: The Michigan Tobacco Program is partnering with several disabilities groups to produce a brochure targeted toward healthcare providers and direct care providers to highlight the high incidence of smoking and related morbidities within the population of people with disabilities (physical, mental or both), and to give guidance about how to effectively address tobacco use dependence.

We would like to know if any programs or projects have produced a similar educational brochure for healthcare providers or direct care providers - and if so, are they willing to share examples of these materials?

A:

  1. Alabama - Alabama hasn't produced any materials on this subject.

  2. Virginia - Click here to review information on tobacco use among people with disabilities.

  3. West Virginia - WV does not currently have specific materials on this, but we do cover this topic in our health care provider education training on tobacco cessation.
