E-cigarette protocols for YTS – 12/23/14

Q: The California Tobacco Control Program is in the process of developing an e-cigarette protocol for Youth Tobacco Purchase Surveys that our local projects would utilize. We wanted to see if there are current protocols concerning e-cigarettes and Youth Tobacco Purchase Surveys. If so, can you please share them?

A:

1. Utah: Attached are the protocol UT developed for an e-cigarette compliance check pilot study that was conducted in 6 of our 12 local health districts the first quarter of this fiscal year. Hopefully, they will be helpful.
    
2. Wisconsin: We will be including e-cigarettes in our compliance checks in 2015 and have created guidelines to assist our coalitions with this process. These guidelines will be used in conjunction with our compliance check protocol. Lastly, we have created a guide to prepare youth for compliance checks that include e-cigarettes.
    
   We anticipate there will be much to learn as go and the guides may be modified to accommodate those lessons learned.
