Sample Smokefree Car Window Clings – 7/27/07

Q: Kentucky's Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Program has been approached by Fleet Management to create a small window cling that could be displayed on approximately 6,000 state cars indicating that the cars are smoke-free. We are really excited about this!! Have any states created something similar and would be willing to share a sample? We’d greatly appreciate it!

A:

  1. Alaska: Attached examples:

  2. Arizona: Examples available at Smokefree Arizona website.

  3. Colorado: While Colorado didn't do a window cling, attached are two brief summaries of the SHS and children campaigns, which might help with the messaging portion of the decal Kentucky is going to create.  The media campaign summaries with evaluation results will be updated by and available for sharing by August 15, 2007.

  4. Minnesota: Attached example of a stick one Minnesota grantee developed:

  5. Nebraska: Nebraska has a "generic" window cling for smoke free vehicles.  It is not specifically for state vehicles.  The clings are available in English and Spanish. Electronic copies of the artwork are not available; however, a sample of each could be shared if needed.

  6. New Hampshire: New Hampshire does not have any current files. We have produced window clings for distribution to the general public. We have some of these in stock and would be happy share. They are about 8" by 10".

  7. Oregon: Included are PDFs of stickers with and without a tag line. Oregon would be happy to share the artwork.

  8. Rhode Island: Rhode Island has window clings displaying 'No-smoking' signs but haven't tried those on car windows:

  9. South Carolina: South Carolina's Tobacco Prevention and Control Program uses the attached smoke-free vehicle cling. This decal was part of our Smoke-Free Worksite Toolkit to encourage smoke-free, tobacco-free model policy which includes recommendations for smoke-free vehicles in motor pools. Partnering with our agency's business office, we successful had all of the motor pool vehicles in our fleet tagged with the smoke-free clings.  The state's Budget and Control Board (B&CB) also tagged their fleet with our clings. Both agencies, B&CB and SC DHEC, designate all motor pool vehicles as smoke-free on the sign-out/reservation paperwork.  Other organizations we have approached and sent clings/decals to for their respective motor pools include SC Department of Disabilities and Special Needs and the SC Probation, Parole and Pardon Services.  The smoke-free cling/decal is also used in a variety of other worksite settings such as colleges & universities and faith-organizations with our Mothers Eliminating Secondhand Smoke (MESS) initiative.  Additionally, we provide the clings to individuals for personal vehicles to help promote the importance of smoke-free vehicles.  Our focus was on the message and making it as readable as possible whether the vehicle is parked or in motion.

  10. Utah: Attached are templates the Utah Tobacco Prevention and Control Program sends out to local contractors to use and adapt as needed. We also have a comprehensive SHS Guide that will have additional ideas.

  11. Vermont: The attached window cling was used for car windows, as well as for businesses and day care centers:
