Promoting Smoke-Free Apartments and Hospital Grounds

March 6, 2006 from 2:30-3:30pm (Eastern Time)

Policy Conference Call
Organized by the Tobacco Control Network (TCN)
This conference call will provide an opportunity to learn about best practices in the promotion of smoke-free apartments/condos and hospital grounds.

Due to the adverse health effects of environmental tobacco smoke (ETS), the seepage of ETS from one apartment or condominium to another has become of concern to both residents and landlords and a cause for several recent lawsuits. This call will feature methods of addressing such problems and relevant legal issues and theories.

Any hospital accredited by The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) must be smoke-free indoors, but there is a new trend of hospitals and health care systems going completely smoke-free on their grounds in order to promote a healthier environment. On this call, we will discuss tips and resources for implementing a successful smoke-free grounds policy, as well as the integration of such a policy with cessation resources for patients and staff.
